Description: I am the niece of Norman Mc Alpin. He used to visit his brother Hugh
Bain, my father, regularly in the early 1960's. My favourite uncle, and sadly Missed.
Norman's father was John Mc Alpin. His mothers name was Anne Bain. Please feel free
to contact me via email if you want. Norman was, like most of his brothers, a good
musician and he and Dad used to have Janm sessions in the front parlour. Norman played
the guitar and banjo, and saxophone too, I think, and Dad played the Sax, or violin,
or banjo as well.
Dad was the most versatile, but Norman was no slouch either. I do remember he wrote
an alternative set of lyrics to On the Road to Mandalay, about possibly his time
in New Guinea during the war. Sadly, I don't have this paper. But I do have his banjo
mandolin. My condolences on the passing of Grace, Brian. Best wishes, Janm
